What a way to kick off the summer season! Stephanie and Erich’s Leucadia Backyard Wedding at Stephanie’s family home saw two hundred or so friends and family coming to celebrate.
The way these two lovebirds met is simple and sweet. Stephanie and Erich met one winter at a party while Erich was home from Cal Poly Slo. The two later moved their lives up to Humboldt where beauty takes on a completely new meaning. It was in the sand dunes on the Fourth of July as the fireworks started popping off that Erich asked sweet Stephanie to marry him.
The bond they shared during the fireworks could be seen and felt throughout their wedding. I just adored the way these two looked at each other. The eyes are truly the windows to our souls and I got to get that peak in every time these two made eye contact. My favorite was catching Stephanie stealing glances at Erich during the ceremony.
Like any DIY wedding, all hands were on deck when I got there. The family put so much work into getting all the tables, chair, and decor setup not to mention that the food for the wedding was home cooked! As Stephanie’s mom mentioned to me later, it really does takes a village to put together a DIY backyard wedding. Talk about a transformation. With the flow of the space, Stephanie’s selection of decor, and the color palette of metallics, dusty rose, and olive green, the backyard was as beautiful as any outdoor wedding would be. They really did an amazing job. I was so excited that Stephanie's dream to have a backyard wedding came to life.
Stephanie and Erich got ready inside the home in different rooms. As I expected, the guys were kicking back drinking beers while the ladies were still getting ready doing hair and makeup. I love how the different rooms have a different feeling. While the ladies were still getting ready, my assistant and I had to do some CIA work to make sure that Stephanie remained unseen while the guys departed to the San Diego Botanic Garden. We came on a pretty busy day to the Botanic Garden but because there are so many nooks and crannies here we were able to easily find a lovely spot for Erich to wait for Stephanie for their First Look. The moment was as sweet and simple as the moment they met and I just loved watching Erich break a smile when he twirled his stunning bride.
We then traveled to Saint John’s Church for the ceremony. As legacy would have it, Stephanie’s parents Cynthia and Tony also tied the knot here! Isn’t that so sweet? The ceremony lasted 30 minutes and I have to say, I just loved the moment when Tony got to walk his daughter down the aisle. It was seriously epic how they took their time, stopped at the end of the aisle for a while as everyone rose to look back, and how slowly they walked to the altar. You only get this moment once and I just super appreciated how much thought went into making that moment last. The pride and joy on Tony’s face was unforgettable.
After the kiss, the two descended down the aisle eager to get back to the backyard for the cocktail hour and reception, and seriously, who could blame them? Open bar, amazing home cooked gluten-free mac and cheese, and a seriously bumpin’ ensemble of music to dance to. So after two big group family shots they were off. The reception was so inviting and perfect. Some of my favorite moments are the candid ones and there were no shortcoming during this party! It was hard to tear myself away, but our time had come to an end. I always say goodbye to my couple before I leave and it was in this moment of saying goodbye to Stephanie that filled me up to the brim. She gave me a big hug with tears in her eyes and told me she could not have done this day without me. I can't even begin to tell you how much joy these meaningful words brought me.
Stephanie and Erich, it was amazing getting to hold space for you two on your wedding day and help you get from one location to the next. Thank you for trusting me to capture this special milestone in your relationship. Here’s to your forever, love, and happiness!
