This past weekend I hopped on a plane to Phoenix, AZ to go support my desert bestie in her major community organizing debut for the bees. Katie is an outspoken and intelligent beauty, activist, mama, and beekeeper who helped organize the first-ever Arizona Honeybee Festival at Agave Farms on Saturday, November 18, 2017.
It was a big festival and not only did she step up to take on two large roles at the event - booking the bands and mc’ing the music stage (which she was a total natural at!) for the first time in her life, she also gave a talk on Sacred Beekeeping. Who does that? I seriously adore this girl!
After a full day of the bee festival, we stole a few minutes to take advantage of the golden light and let Katie buzz around the farm, twirling around barefoot. Our session was like unleashing Katie’s inner bee. It felt like a dream watching her run around in her yellow floral romper dress.
It was an exciting jam-packed weekend from the minute I landed and it did not stop at the bees. We continued our festival hopping onto the next day where Katie ran a 5K for the animals during the Farm Sanctuary’s Phoenix Plant Powered Run 2017. I was in heaven with all the vegan food options. There are so many I wish I had time to try! Always a good excuse though to go back.
We indulged in tasty vegan cuisine the whole weekend and shared so many memories and deep conversations. This girl constantly amazes me with her journey and it was so amazing getting to document such a big weekend for her. So proud of you lady for setting out to make all your passions dreams, and dreams realities! You are an inspiration who emanated such strong women power this weekend. I am so grateful for our sisterhood! Never stop buzzing.
