Guys!!! It’s Fall Family Portrait season and I totally felt like the Padilla family knocked their Encinitas Fall Family Lifestyle Session out of the park! They were such a cute, cuddly, and silly family to photograph (my favorite!!!). I giggled with them so much!
The Padilla family decided to take photos this year because they hadn’t taken them since 2012! That’s over six years and mama Melody was realizing that her kids are getting so big (ages 11, 14, and 16) and soon enough the oldest would be an adult! So, this year she decided that she wanted, “a beautiful snapshot of this season in [their] lives… and a great Christmas or New Year photo to send to family and friends.”
Our session could be described as just strolling the streets of their neighborhood. Simple right? Downtown Encinitas has a TON of character with lots of gorgeous spots to stop and take a minute to cuddle in front of, plus, what community is it safe or acceptable to hang out in the street? That’s what I LOVE about Downtown Encinitas. It still has that sleepy beach town feel and the Padilla family is a great representation of the cool and amazing families who call this place home.
Everything felt so perfectly them, from their fall color palette of reds, pinks, blues, beiges and browns to the openness for styling guidance, and the casualness of our session overall. One thing I love doing for my families is providing styling and fashion guidance. Usually styling a family falls to the mama, and many times mama doesn’t have time to think about these types of things. That’s where my styling skills comes in! I work with what you have to bring to life a color palette and outfits that feel fresh and fun, but still capture your families unique personalities.
For this session, we built off of mama Melody’s red tie dye sleeveless long flowy dress. Have I mentioned I LOVE photographing flowy dresses? They just add such beautiful movement to photos (scroll down to see what I mean). She also had this amazing sun hat and sturdy brown boots that we had to say YES to because they were unique pieces that added a ton of character. After exploring more of the family’s closet, I realized all the girls had boots and so a style was born. I love texture and I love patterns, but not too many patterns and not super busy patterns (because it doesn’t show up well on camera), but for this session, having the oldest daughter in a large flower pattern short dress with boots broke up the solid colors in a way that added beautiful visual interest. Basically, it looked amazing!!
Every member of the family had their own style: Melody’s hubby in a navy blue button up, olive pants, and brown shoes; the youngest daughter in a baby blue sundress, faded red cowgirl boots with a flower crown with pink and white blooms; the oldest and only son in a light pink button up, dark blue jeans, and white low top converse shoes. The best part? Everyone was super comfortable in their outfits which made the session run that much more smoothly!
We walked, twirled, and jumped all the way to Santa Fe Road, one of my most favorite viewpoints in Encinitas, and all the while along the way, we stopped to take photos! This mama is super proud of her three children (a creative preteen who has a knack for foreign accents and modern dance, a bright and kind teenager who is one of the most advanced ballerinas in her studio, and a sophisticated and curious teenager who loves speech and debate) and it was such an honor to capture this memory for this super sweet family. What a fun night!!!
